As the sun sets over the mountains, the temperature is dropping and the wind picking up. It swirls viciously around my face, my horse staunchly fighting against the thick snow, so heavy that I can barely see a foot ahead. I pull the collar of my jacket up around my face and try to rub some warmth into my nose. Flexing my toes inside the frozen leather boots, I pull my horse up. It is too dark and cold now to safely navigate our way through the rocky terrain, and one false move could mean the end of my journey. I stretch and slip off Cyris, and remove his saddle and bridle. I sighed and kicked at the sand below my feet. There was so much going on in my head, and I had been struggling to make sense of it all. My thoughts belong to me. As she searched, her movements were frantic. Vibrant yellow eyes watched her from the darkness, a thin string of saliva dripping down to its chin. She could hear him as he stomped through the house, looking for her. It crept forward half a pace, a hiss escaping its bared fangs. She turned to the door, her hands empty and her eyes wild. The saliva drips down his chin into the scruff of his beard as he hears the next victim, the buzzing emanating from the window. Slowly, half a step at a time, he creeps up to peer at his prey, eyes wide and pupils dilated. Without breaking eye contact, he raises his chopsticks and snaps them around his snack. A sharp whinny from Corizon pulls me from my daze, and I glance up to see the looming remains of a stone arch, a castle rising out of the still-falling snow.
